چکیده

The control of complex systems is an ongoing challenge of complexity research. Recent advances using concepts of structural control deduce a wide range of control related properties from the network representation of complex systems. Here, we examine the controllability of complex systems for which the timescale of the dynamics we control and the timescale of changes in the network are comparable. We provide both analytical and computational tools to study controllability based on temporal network characteristics. We apply these results to investigate the controllable subnetwork using a single input, present analytical results for a generic class of temporal network models, and preform measurements using data collected from a real system. Depending upon the density of the interactions compared to the timescale of the dynamics, we witness a phase transition describing the sudden emergence of a giant controllable subspace spanning a finite fraction of the network. We also study the role of temporal patterns and network topology in real data making use of various randomization procedures, finding that the overall activity and the degree distribution of the underlying network are the main features influencing controllability. 1 ar X iv :1 31 2. 75 95 v1 [ co nd -m at .s ta tm ec h] 2 9 D ec 2 01 3

Control of Multilayer Networks.

The controllability of a network is a theoretical problem of relevance in a variety of contexts ranging from financial markets to the brain. Until now, network controllability has been characterized only on isolated networks, while the vast majority of complex systems are formed by multilayer networks. Here we build a theoretical framework for the linear controllability of multilayer networks b...

Controllability of Time-Aware Processes at Run Time

Companies increasingly adopt process-aware information systems (PAISs) to analyze, coordinate, and monitor their business processes. Although the proper handling of temporal constraints (e.g., deadlines, minimum time lags between activities) is crucial for many applications, contemporary PAISs lack a sophisticated support of the temporal perspective of business processes. In previous work, we i...

Controllability of temporal networks: An analysis using higher-order networks

In this manuscript, we show how higher-order graphical models can be applied to study the controllability of networked systems with dynamic topologies. Studying empirical data on temporal networks, we specifically show that the order correlations in the activation sequence of links can both increase or reduce the time needed to achieve full controllability. We then demonstrate how spectral prop...

Architecture in Transition Era toward Network Society

Technology affected human life in many ways in different eras of mankind history. Today, the information and telecommunication technology has revolutionized basic structures of human life. Changes are from the whole to the parts and vice versa, which include family and society too. Family lost its former structure in the information age and differentiated from patriarchy family. Societies have ...

Effect of correlations on controllability transition in network control

The network control problem has recently attracted an increasing amount of attention, owing to concerns including the avoidance of cascading failures of power-grids and the management of ecological networks. It has been proven that numerical control can be achieved if the number of control inputs exceeds a certain transition point. In the present study, we investigate the effect of degree corre...
